My Son Brandon and I moved here several years ago.
With the vineyards creeping up from the Napa area, it was becoming harder and harder to find any breathing room.
The quality of the people was changing as well and with the death of my father I decided it was time to strike out and find a place that was abit more peaceful.
That brought me to a small town near Bismark, North Dakota.
Bismarck was founded in 1872 and sits on the Missouri Plateau directly across the Missouri River from Mandan, North Dakota. The two cities make up the core urban area of the Bismarck-Mandan Metropolitan Statistical Area however ironically they are in 2 different county's.

Old churches litter the countryside |
Known for its rich historical value North Dakota has been home to many tribes Indians for literally thousands of years hunting Mammoth and other prehistoric animals. This continued untill the end of the Indian wars with the United States.
North Dakota was home to the 7th Calvary lead by Gen. Armstrong Custer who led them into the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
Its also the original resting place of Sitting Bull.
Today its crops are world known as is its beef production.
Old abandoned ranches and churches litter the country and offer a glimpse into a time long gone.

North Dakota has some of the prettiest Northern Light shows I've ever seen.

I'm always asked if the winters are as bad here as everyone says. No, so far I've not seen anything nearly as bad as what we have in the sierras on any given year.
Its the wind that comes with the snow that will freeze you.
