Gypsy's Perdi Girl
AMHR89776A

One day in the fall of 09 I was at the livestock auction during a horse sale. Before the sale started I went to look at the horses that had come in and came across this little black mare.
She was looked more like a night mare then a perdy girl. It amazes me how people can starve a miniature horse but she was needed some weight on those bones.

Her coat was mangy, reminding me more of a wooly mammoth with a bad case of lice eating at her long winter coat. That was what coat you could see under all the mud she had caked on her.
I said hello to her and my heart broke, but I walked away with her nickering and calling me back.
Later, my son Brandon went to look at horses and came back upset. “Mom” he said” There is this little black pony that needs us. It looks like no one has loved her in a long time, and mom, she cried to me when I walked away.”

For the second time that day, my heart cried for this little mare. Enough said, she was put there for me to find her. Sometimes you “want” a certain horse but sometimes there is one that is just put there by God for you to take care of. This is how I felt about Perdy.

Finding the person who brought her in wasn’t a problem, neither was buying her before she entered the ring. At this point I might add that there was a little black stallion in with her that was as neglected as she was but I could only help one of them. Little Nite Owl ( the stallions name) never went far from my mind however and later on we bought him also, but that’s a different story that you will find on his page.
Then, at the end of March, 2011, The 2 year old daughter of Perdy and Little Nite Owl also came to the auction, needless to say I bought her too

Perdy was 14 years old and her only life so far had been that of a broodmare. Rehab was hard, at a Vet check I found out she was pregnant by Little Nite Owl but reabsorbed the foal, according to the vet because of her poor body condition.

I am proud to say that today Perdy is a fantastic driving pony. She enjoys her new life and is priceless when it comes to teaching new drivers . She is bomb proof and will soon be used to help teach our younger miniatures how to drive .

Thursday 4-14-11, I noticed that her eye was pussy and put her in a run by herself. After several days I noticed it wasn’t getting better with home treatment and I called the Vet.

Today was her visit and the news is bitter sweet. The good news is she isn’t blind yet and about half the sight in her left eye will be able to be saved.
The bad news is she had to have surgery on her eye in order to save it. She has a ruptured cornea. Treatment is going to require several trips to the vet , this alone is because he trusted me to see that she gets her antibiotics 5 times a day. Otherwise she would have had to stay there for a week.

I was told if I had waited until Monday he would not have been able to save her eye. I must say that I have a fantastic Vet and he is doing all he can for her while being as sensitive to my wallet as possible.

I am going to auction off 2 leashes’…winner’s choice on color, pattern, and size in order to help pay for the Vet bill that on the first visit alone is larger then what I paid for her.

IF you bid on a leash please let me know it’s for the save perdy’s sight fund and not an order. If you don’t want a leash and would like to donate a few dollars to help cover Perdy’s Vet bill, I thank you in advance. No amount is too small.
I will keep everyone posted on Perdy’s progress.
